Merran Hughes is an interdisciplinary artist, writer and curator. As well as developing her own practice, she facilitates cultural projects and workshops, supporting diverse audiences to find their creative strengths.
Ocean Advocacy
Merran has a passion for the ocean and for coastal care. She is a co-founder of BLUE WORLD, an organisation supporting ocean protection via the Valerie Taylor Ocean Prizes.

Sculpture
Merran’s current focus is sculpture. She has a developing interest in bronze, and in translating her ideas into metal form.

Merran is researching and writing about the struggles and achievements of Fanny Durack and Mina Wylie.

Merran facilitates community cultural projects and workshops supporting clients to find their creative strengths.
Working in bronze
Bronze carries a sense of permanence. I love the long history and challenges of the process. I translate my ideas from drawing to wax and then into a metal form. There’s something deeply satisfying about knowing that my work, once cast, becomes part of a tradition stretching back centuries.
